The Frida Art Project will begin during Tuesday Night Market on the artists’ corner of 3rd Avenue and Main St. in Hillsboro on June 14.
What folks will witness is a community building a partnership between Tuesday Night Market and M & M Marketplace. The partnership will be seen through the artwork created by local artists who will get involved every Tuesday evening in the summer painting large panels with a common theme combining the landscapes and people of both Oregon and Mexico.
M & M Marketplace is a market which houses over 60 individual vendors much like Tuesday Marketplace in downtown Hillsboro where folks gather to enjoy different activities, eat their meals and celebrate events. However, M & M has a big difference, a cultural difference; the vendors here are all Latinos.
At the end of the summer these colorful panels will be installed at M & M Marketplace, 346 SW Walnut, just a few blocks south of downtown Hillsboro and completing the partnership. This project, and this open house celebration, will bring two cultures together helping a person become aware of all that is wonderful in our own community. The public will be invited to see how creativity happens when two cultures combine their talents.
This project brings together our two cultures that live so closely in Hillsboro yet often seem to be separate.
