The Westside Cultural Alliance is a coalition of representatives from arts, cultural,
educational, government and business organizations who seek to nurture and promote Arts,
Heritage, and Humanities in Washington County, Oregon.
Supported by Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC)
staff and RACC board liaisons from Washington
County, the WCA is currently looking at various areas important to arts and cultural
development in the county. Based on the results of a survey distributed to artists and arts
organizations in August and November 1999, respondents identified these needs and
priorities:
- Arts Alliance - Formation of a formal countywide arts-business-community (ABC)
alliance.
- Awareness - Raise awareness and build a unified message for the arts and cultural
opportunities.
- Visibility - Increase media and publicity for arts and culture in Washington
County.
- Networking - Build supportive and effective relationships between business,
education, government and community.
- Arts in education - Advocate for an expanded arts curriculum.
- Facilities - Increase access to and number of facilities within the county.
- Funding - Increase private and public funding for arts and culture.
FACT:
More than 1,100 practicing artists, 165 arts and cultural organizations, 135 potential
